Ferdinand Hodler and Mark Rothko: A Passion for the Italian Renaissance, September 14 Lecture at the Morgan Library & Museum
Ferdinand Hodler and Mark Rothko: A Passion for the Italian Renaissance, is the topic of a fascinating lecture taking place at our partner institution, the Morgan Library & Museum on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at 6:30 PM. It is in conjunction with the Morgan’s exhibit, “Ferdinand Hodler: Drawings—Selections from the Musée Jenisch Vevey,” on view until October first. In the talk, Niklaus Güdel, Director of the Ferdinand Hodler Institute, Geneva, will discuss a link between Ferdinand Hodler and Mark Rothko based on their common interest in the Italian Renaissance. Preoccupied with color, death, and the place of the human body in nature, both artists found inspiration in Italian painting, notably the art of Giotto and Fra Angelico. Please click here for ticketing information. The exhibition will be open at 5:30 PM for program attendees.
